Anaerobic digestion for the exploitation of industrial residues

The aim of digesting organic residues anaerobically is the exploitation of the energy left in these residues which can be recycled in the industrial process. So far many industries gain their energy from fossil fuels, but anaerobic digestion of organic residues is a very reasonable alternative as the energy can be used in the industrial process directly. The long term internal exploitation of industrial residues will lead to the decrease of energy costs for the industrial plant. Thus the ecological footprint of the plant is reduced and the process contributes to environmental protection and to reaching the 20-20-20 aims of the European Union. (Until the year 2020 the European-wide aims are: 20 % reduction of greenhouse gas emissions in comparison to 1990, 20 % of the energy supply is provided by renewable energies, 20 % higher energy efficiency.)
